POTA activation highlights new ARRL momobeam antenna.

The American Radio Relay League (The ARRL) is now marketing a new POTA (Parks On the Air) dual-band antenna covering the 10m and 6m Amateur Radio Bands.

This antenna is portable, easy-to-set up, and does well in the enhanced propagation given by the solar maximum of cycle 25.

In this video, ARRL staffers Steve (K5ATA) and Alex (KC1RMO), assemble, test, and operate this fascinating antenna, which combines a 10 meter Moxon antenna with a 2-element Yagi for 6 meters.

So far, the antenna is only available in the U.S.

For more information, please contact The ARRL.

Thanks for joining us today.

Here are some comments from Steve (K5ATA) and Alex (KC1RMO):

It was a sunny day with perfect weather – we couldn’t help but take the new ARRL Momobeam Antenna outside for a Parks on The Air® activation as W1AW. Steve, K5ATA, is an experienced POTA activator, and he shows Alex, KC1RMO, the ropes on a beautiful day. See how easy it is to setup the antenna, get on the air, and rack up a ton of contacts. Get on the Air with the ARRL Dual-band Momobeam 6/10 Antenna The new ARRL Dual-band Momobeam 6/10 Antenna features two innovative antennas – a 10-meter Moxon (28 MHz) and 6-meter Yagi (50 MHz) – in one. Now YOU can own a BEAM! This beam is designed to help radio amateurs take full advantage of the exciting opportunities for distant contacts. It is an easy-to-use antenna with a small footprint and a big reach. At just over 10 pounds and with a turning radius of approximately 6.5 feet, the design is compact enough to fit places that otherwise wouldn’t have space for a beam antenna. It's easy to assemble, lightweight, mast-mountable, and includes two sets of hardware for both permanent installation and portable use for temporary deployments…like your next park activation! Let’s talk technical! With a 1500-watt antenna power rating, the feed system uses an open sleeve feed method, coupling the driven element of the 50 MHz section by proximity and length to the 10-meter driven element with minimal loss. Just attach a single coaxial cable to included SO-239 equipped coaxial pigtail, and you’re ready to go on two bands. The 10-meter Moxon is an effective design for this dual-band antenna, as it’s around 30% smaller than a traditional Yagi and uses no traps or other shortening techniques that reduce performance. A BEAM for EVERYONE! This antenna is perfect for new hams, beginners, portable operators, university club stations, and even big stations looking for a lightweight yet robust antenna. Put this antenna on the air and operate 10 and 6 meters with a single feed line. Get yours as we approach the peak of Cycle 25 and before contest season begins. THE BANDS ARE HOT and so is this antenna! The antenna was introduced at the 2024 ARRL National Convention hosted at Dayton Hamvention® in May.
