Using CB Antennas for Portable Ham Radio

When I first became a licensed radio amateur years ago, I modified a 108-inch (2.59 meters) steel CB Whip as my 10 meter antenna.  I cut off about 3-inches (0.076 meters) from the whip to bring it in range of the Technician Class SSB segment on 10 meters. The antenna worked very well.

In this video, Walt (K4OGO) modifies some CB mobile antennas to work on the 10 and 12 meter Amateur Radio bands.  Make a few of these antennas for emergency or portable use... a great weekend project!
